In this paper1 we introduce eXtensible MetaGrammar, a system that facilitates the development of tree based grammars. Thissystem includes both (1) aformal lan- guage adapted to the description of lin- guistic information and (2) a compiler for this language. It applies techniques of logic programming (e.g. Warren’s Ab- stract Machine), thus providing an effi- cient and theoretically motivated frame- work for the processing of linguistic meta- descriptions.
